Back to Work

When my first signing of the season ended, and The Veiled Path to Destiny was released, I had planned to jump right back into writing and getting the next book on the agenda out. My muse, she’s a fickle one, decided otherwise. So,  I took the time to catch up on a little bit of reading. I should actually say, I did a re-read of a book I loved so much I have a pristine, signed copy on the shelf and an e-copy on my Kindle. Do you do that? Buy a book in both formats?

Here’s another question…do you follow an author when they branch out from the genre you’re familiar reading them write? Or do you only want to read the books they write in said genre? For me, if I love the author’s writing, how they bring a scene to life, I will follow. For some, it might take me awhile to make the jump, but for others I jump with little to no hesitation.

Now….I am back to putting words on the page. The book I am currently working on is another Fae romance, but not a part of the Veil series, and will be a stand-alone. At least that is the goal. One just never knows when a secondary character will jump up, waving their hands, demanding their story be told.

The second WIP is a fairytale retelling, but more on that later one. After that, we return to The Veil Series. Celine and Coipeail will have there story told. 😉

What was the book I re-read you ask? Well, I’ll tell ya…It was Sky of Dreams by Jenna Jacob. It’s a departure from the Doms of Genesis series, but OMG…it has all the feels you could possibly want in a contemporary romance. Give it a read. You’ll love it. (link at the bottom of the page)

Writers On The River ReCap

As some of you may remember, my first signing was last weekend at Writers on the River in East Peoria. It was the second year for this event, and oh my….how it has grown.

As soon as the doors opened, we were off and running. The VIP readers came pouring in. There was never a lull in the day. It was awesome, and the event raised $7,500 for two charities, Thistle Farms and The Center for Prevention of Abuse. I love when the proceeds of an event I’m signing at go towards a charity. The ladies who put this signing together are pretty darn awesome as well.

Sooo, as I said…the reader traffic was non-stop, which means the two books I was able to buy right before the doors opened, are the only ones I purchased this time and I didn’t have time to even think about taking pictures. Busy is a good thing!

Ooooooh…and The Veiled Path to Destiny made it’s debut! As of this morning, the ebook was still available for $0.99. If you were thinking of downloading it onto your Kindle, now would be a good time to do that.

Until next week….Happy Reading!

It’s a Book!

There is a certain giddiness when you see the transformation of your manuscript into a book, and you see it and get to hold it in your hands for the first time. I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat when I opened the box and saw my pretties beneath the butcher paper protecting them.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting them for another couple of days, so I didn’t even look at the mailing label well enough to realize it was from the printer. I was wondering what I ordered from amazon and forgot about. lol

I pulled out a copy, held it under the light, and admired the cover that Suzanna Lynn from Funky Book Designs created for me. She gave me exactly what I wanted and created something that had me saying, YES! That’s it perfectly! She is amazing!

I opened it up, and had to hold in the squeeee wanting to escape as my mother, who was there, was already looking at me like I had lost my mind. It’s so pretty, and I can hardly wait for all of you to see it in person, because the picture doesn’t do it justice. Thank you to the ones who took my manuscript and turned it into a pretty book. You know who you are.

The Veiled Path to Destiny~The Veil Book 2 releases on July 8th. You can’t pre-order the print copy, but you can the e-copy on Amazon for only $.99. That’s right, 99 copper pennies will get you an e-copy delivered to your choice of Kindle reader/app on July 8th. www.amazon.com/dp/B072YT686B If you’re at Writers on the River on the 8th, you can be one of the first readers to get your hands on the print copy. 😉

Not to be outdone, the e-book of the first book in the series, Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams~The Veil Book 1, is also available for $.99 for a limited time www.amazon.com/dp/B015NP04Q6

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Cover Reveal, Pre-Order, and a SALE!

Guess what! The Veiled Path to Destiny is up for Pre-Order and Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams is on Sale!

If she had never been at a crossroad before, Daria found herself at one now.

With one foot in the distant past, the other remains firmly entrenched in the present. Daria tries to come to terms with the memories of her previous life as they inundate her mind on an endless loop. Can she deal with the past and find a way to walk the path that is laid out for her future? Is she brave enough to face her destiny, or will she walk away?

Iauron has his Queen back…or does he? His is aware of Daria’s lingering doubts about him as she tries to retain her humanity in the face of remembering and accepting who she once was. Though the main threat to her life is temporarily incapacitated, he knows it cannot, and will not, remain that way forever.

Not fully Verisiel nor Daria, is she strong enough to meet the coming threat head on? Can she come into her powers and stand by his side? Can he let her go if she cannot accept the whole truth of her situation?

Big questions remain with few answers in sight, and time is running out.

Things are not always simple or what they seem.
Daria McClaren is content. She has her dance school, her cousin Celine and the man of her dreams. Literally.

Iauron is uneasy. As the High King of the Fae, his chosen Queen Verisiel is calling to him, but he cannot find her. The court insists that she has crossed over. He is not so sure that is the case. He has searched every realm looking. Every realm, but the human one.

The race is on. Beyond the veil lie truths waiting to be revealed. Which one will have the courage to look? Will they be in time?

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Editing Away

I’m knee deep in edits. It’s never fun or easy, but a necessary evil required for all books to go through. I’m not going to go on about how much I don’t like going through edits because…really…what writer enjoys them? lol.

I am going to keep this short though. The deadline to get them done is looming, and I have many more pages to go through.

In the meantime…if you haven’t read the beginning of Daria and Iauron’s story, Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams, why don’t you check it out. 😉 You’ll want to read it before you read The Veiled Path to Destiny.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Edits…Get Your Edits

Two weeks ago I sent The Veiled Path to Destiny off to my editor. It would be the first time eyes, other than mine, have read the story. Yesterday, I received my manuscript along with the editing calls in the mail. Yay…eep…yay!

I’m not going to bemoan the red ink. I’ve come to think of it as a rite of passage a story goes through to reach it’s full potential. I also think it’s sort of a rite of passage a writer goes through on the way to becoming a better writer. One might think the goal is get a story back with no red ink on it. That is just setting yourself up for failure. There are no “perfect” manuscripts out there. If you get your manuscript back with no markings, get yourself another editor, because if they don’t call your attention to mistakes in your writing that you missed before sending it their way…I can guarantee the readers will not hesitate to do so. The goal is to learn from the calls made so the same kind of calls are not made in the next story you send out for edits, at least, that is my goal anyway.

So, on that note…their are edits to get through and the day isn’t getting any longer.

p.s.: I really hope this makes sense. lol. My brain is just now waking up and there has not been nearly enough caffeine crossing the blood brain barrier to fire up all systems.  😉

Until next week…Happy Reading!

The End

Remember that pinprick ray of light in the dark tunnel I told you about? Well, it has encompassed the darkness. The Veiled Path to Destiny has reached The End, and has been passed off to the editor. YAY!

Barring a total “nice try. try again.” from the editor, the projected release date is…July 8th!

Why so long out, you might ask. Well…the editor has it now. I expect to have it back in my hand in a couple of weeks. I will then go through the edits, make the corrections, add, rewrite, as suggested by said editor. Then a final read through is done before it goes to be formatted. All  of this takes time, but is essential in making sure the story is presented to you…the reader…in its best light. I hope you will find it to be worth the wait.

The cover reveal will be coming soon. Suzanna Lynn of Funky Book Designs did an amazing job and I can’t wait for you to see it.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

The Struggle Is Real…But Oh So Worth It!

Last week I told you I would have some exciting news to share with you this week. I’m going to hold off another week. Why? So I don’t jinx myself.

It’s no secret The Veiled Path to Destiny, the second book in my Veil Series, has taken me longer to write. I have second guessed my abilities to give this second book the words that adequately portray what I was seeing in my mind’s eye. Iauron and Daria deserved to have the second half of their story told well.

There had been  a stretch of time where I thought, after this book is done, I’m done. Maybe I don’t have what it takes to be more than a one book author.

If truth be told, if it were not for the readers and my author friends who have been asking for The Veiled Path to Destiny, I think I would have chucked it. The doubt was STRONG. Thankfully, that thought path didn’t last long. I have refound faith in my ability to spin a tale and do it justice, and this story will be out soon.

It’s been a struggle, but then most things worthwhile are. The trick is to not give into the urge to give up, because nothing is ever accomplished if you don’t push through the tough times.

I have a story to finish, and when I say…this story is for you…I sincerely mean it. You have been my inspiration.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Snippet, snippet, here’s a snippet

I’m smack-dab in the middle of the second to last chapter of The Veil Path to Destiny. Woot Woot.

Here is the last snippet of The Veiled Path to Destiny I will share before the book is published. Remember, it’s unedited and subject to change:

Caitriona quickly gained her footing lest she be dragged down the hallway after the sudden and unexpected turn around. “Where are we going?”

Daria turned her head to look at Caitriona, her silver eyes bright with excitement she hadn’t seen in too many days to count. “Outside. The sun is shining, and I can’t wait to feel it on my skin. It’s been too long and the Goddess only knows how long it will last.”

“Are you sure we should be doing that, my lady?”

Daria smiled. “Relax, we’re only going to the gardens.”

Red curls bouncing around her shoulders, Caitriona rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I’ve heard that one before. You’re going to get me fired one of these days.”

“Pffft…Iauron won’t fire you. He’ll just withhold my orgasms for a week, and trust me, I don’t want that.” The sound of Caitriona’s choked laugh stopped Daria in her tracks. “I said that out loud didn’t I?”

Her face red with sufficed laughter, Caitriona raised a hand to cover the smile she couldn’t keep from curving the corners of her mouth, and nodded. “You did.”

Daria huffed out an exasperated breath, “Well frick! I didn’t say anything, and you…you’ll forget hearing what I didn’t say.”

Caitriona giggled, “Oh, but you did, and I won’t.”

Daria glared at Caitriona who had become more of a friend than she was a servant. “Come on, we’re burning daylight.” She groused and continued their trek down the hall.

Once Caitriona had donned her boots and coat, they made their way to the kitchen to grab some bird feed. While Caitriona filled a small tin pail, Daria snagged a fresh from the oven biscuit. Under the watchful eye of the cook, split it in two and slathered each half with a healthy dollop of honey butter from the wooden bowl sitting on the counter. She took a bite and sighed in delight at the sweetness of the butter washing over her taste buds. “Sooo good, Molly. Will you save me some for when we come back in?”

“Of course, Miss. It would be my pleasure. I’ll have a fresh batch waiting in the warmer for you along with some hot chocolate.”

Snagging another biscuit, she wrapped it in a white cloth napkin and stowed it in large pocket of her cloak. “You’re a doll, Molly.” Daria complimented her, neatly avoiding the ‘thank you’ that automatically danced at the tip of tongue.

Molly’s face flushed with pride, “Off with you two now.”

Daria hooked her arm with Caitriona’s and rushed out the kitchen door leading to the side courtyard. She lifted her face to the soft breeze as it caressed her face and neck. She deeply inhaled the crisp, cool air and smiled.

A Hint of Things to Come

There is a giddiness that comes from having a great working plan in place for a project. Last night I had the pleasure of doing some preliminary  plotting with another author friend for  a story that may be a part of a project for next year. It was awesome to bounce around ideas with someone. I can’t wait to get started on this story. I’ll let you know what it is once it’s official.

Meanwhile, The Veiled Path to Destiny is closer to being done. I thought about sharing another snippet with you from it, but decided to share one from Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams~The Veil Book 1…for those who have not read book 1 yet.

Excerpt from Chapter 4

The mist cleared and Daria found herself in a forest glade lit by tiny globes of light that seemed to hover in the air. She could hear the gentle gurgling of a nearby stream. Glancing down at herself, Daria held her arms out in front of her body, astonished at the gown of gold silk that she wore. Never had she owned anything like it. Never had she seen or worn anything like it. Tiny, barely there straps clung to the edges of her shoulders, keeping the deep v fitted bodice from falling down. The skirt of the gown clung to her form without being tight and fell to the ground in a cloud of golden silk with a train that seemed impossible to walk with. The grass beneath her bare feet was a thick, soft blanket of green.

Iauron stood in the shadows, drinking her in. It had been so long since his ancient eyes had seen her. He could feel Verisiel’s essence flowing through the form of this human female that looked so much like her. He knew he must tread slowly as not to frighten her. Though she held the spirit of Verisiel within her, she was still very human in her thinking, and a very young human in comparison to his many centuries of existence.

“Tá tú go hálainn,” he said softly from his place in the shadows, wanting to give her a chance to acclimate to the idea that she was not here alone. He watched as she spun towards his voice, her delicate features showing a trace of shock and wariness.

Startled at the sound of a masculine voice, Daria spun around and noted that a fast escape would be next to impossible with the gown twisting around her ankles. She cleared her throat, swallowing her fear. “Excuse me?”

“Tá tú go hálainn,” Iauron repeated, stepping out into the open.

Daria looked up at the man stepping through the curtain of trees. He was taller than any man she had ever seen. The black leather jerkin framed the bare skin of his broad chest. The leather pants that clung to his muscular legs like a second skin disappeared into the boots that rode up over his knees, making her aware of her own bare feet. Her eyes travelled back up his body to his chiseled face with piercing sapphire blue eyes that stared at her with a knowing gleam. A smile curved one side of his mouth. She felt her knees knocking and the core of her body heating in response. Blushing, she hoped he hadn’t noticed the uncharacteristic reaction to him. The teasing glint in his eyes told her that he hadn’t missed a thing. She nearly groaned in embarrassment.

She raised a hand to her chest and took a deep breath, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what you said.” She frowned, “I don’t even know if you know what I’m saying. I apologize if I disturbed you, I didn’t realize anyone was here.” Bending slightly, she reached down to untangle the gown from her legs and turned to leave, “If you’ll excuse me.”

Iauron was amused by her babbling, a trait she had always had when he managed to fluster her. “You are beautiful.” His words managed to stay her intended flight. “Tá tú go hálainn means, you are beautiful,” he spoke softly and slowly approached her as one would approach a skittish doe.

She looked down at the gown, “It’s a very beautiful gown.”

Though he ached to touch her, he sensed that she was ready to bolt. He walked around her tense form to face her. “The gown is lovely, but ‘tis you who are beautiful.”

Daria looked down at her toes peeking beneath the hem of the gown and shook her head.

Iauron gently placed his fingertips beneath her chin and raised her face, smiling as she lifted her silver iridescent eyes to his, “Yes, mo chroí. Never doubt it. You are the truest beauty to be found in any realm.”
