The End

Remember that pinprick ray of light in the dark tunnel I told you about? Well, it has encompassed the darkness. The Veiled Path to Destiny has reached The End, and has been passed off to the editor. YAY!

Barring a total “nice try. try again.” from the editor, the projected release date is…July 8th!

Why so long out, you might ask. Well…the editor has it now. I expect to have it back in my hand in a couple of weeks. I will then go through the edits, make the corrections, add, rewrite, as suggested by said editor. Then a final read through is done before it goes to be formatted. All  of this takes time, but is essential in making sure the story is presented to you…the reader…in its best light. I hope you will find it to be worth the wait.

The cover reveal will be coming soon. Suzanna Lynn of Funky Book Designs did an amazing job and I can’t wait for you to see it.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

The Struggle Is Real…But Oh So Worth It!

Last week I told you I would have some exciting news to share with you this week. I’m going to hold off another week. Why? So I don’t jinx myself.

It’s no secret The Veiled Path to Destiny, the second book in my Veil Series, has taken me longer to write. I have second guessed my abilities to give this second book the words that adequately portray what I was seeing in my mind’s eye. Iauron and Daria deserved to have the second half of their story told well.

There had been  a stretch of time where I thought, after this book is done, I’m done. Maybe I don’t have what it takes to be more than a one book author.

If truth be told, if it were not for the readers and my author friends who have been asking for The Veiled Path to Destiny, I think I would have chucked it. The doubt was STRONG. Thankfully, that thought path didn’t last long. I have refound faith in my ability to spin a tale and do it justice, and this story will be out soon.

It’s been a struggle, but then most things worthwhile are. The trick is to not give into the urge to give up, because nothing is ever accomplished if you don’t push through the tough times.

I have a story to finish, and when I say…this story is for you…I sincerely mean it. You have been my inspiration.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Snippet, snippet, here’s a snippet

I’m smack-dab in the middle of the second to last chapter of The Veil Path to Destiny. Woot Woot.

Here is the last snippet of The Veiled Path to Destiny I will share before the book is published. Remember, it’s unedited and subject to change:

Caitriona quickly gained her footing lest she be dragged down the hallway after the sudden and unexpected turn around. “Where are we going?”

Daria turned her head to look at Caitriona, her silver eyes bright with excitement she hadn’t seen in too many days to count. “Outside. The sun is shining, and I can’t wait to feel it on my skin. It’s been too long and the Goddess only knows how long it will last.”

“Are you sure we should be doing that, my lady?”

Daria smiled. “Relax, we’re only going to the gardens.”

Red curls bouncing around her shoulders, Caitriona rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I’ve heard that one before. You’re going to get me fired one of these days.”

“Pffft…Iauron won’t fire you. He’ll just withhold my orgasms for a week, and trust me, I don’t want that.” The sound of Caitriona’s choked laugh stopped Daria in her tracks. “I said that out loud didn’t I?”

Her face red with sufficed laughter, Caitriona raised a hand to cover the smile she couldn’t keep from curving the corners of her mouth, and nodded. “You did.”

Daria huffed out an exasperated breath, “Well frick! I didn’t say anything, and you…you’ll forget hearing what I didn’t say.”

Caitriona giggled, “Oh, but you did, and I won’t.”

Daria glared at Caitriona who had become more of a friend than she was a servant. “Come on, we’re burning daylight.” She groused and continued their trek down the hall.

Once Caitriona had donned her boots and coat, they made their way to the kitchen to grab some bird feed. While Caitriona filled a small tin pail, Daria snagged a fresh from the oven biscuit. Under the watchful eye of the cook, split it in two and slathered each half with a healthy dollop of honey butter from the wooden bowl sitting on the counter. She took a bite and sighed in delight at the sweetness of the butter washing over her taste buds. “Sooo good, Molly. Will you save me some for when we come back in?”

“Of course, Miss. It would be my pleasure. I’ll have a fresh batch waiting in the warmer for you along with some hot chocolate.”

Snagging another biscuit, she wrapped it in a white cloth napkin and stowed it in large pocket of her cloak. “You’re a doll, Molly.” Daria complimented her, neatly avoiding the ‘thank you’ that automatically danced at the tip of tongue.

Molly’s face flushed with pride, “Off with you two now.”

Daria hooked her arm with Caitriona’s and rushed out the kitchen door leading to the side courtyard. She lifted her face to the soft breeze as it caressed her face and neck. She deeply inhaled the crisp, cool air and smiled.

A Hint of Things to Come

There is a giddiness that comes from having a great working plan in place for a project. Last night I had the pleasure of doing some preliminary  plotting with another author friend for  a story that may be a part of a project for next year. It was awesome to bounce around ideas with someone. I can’t wait to get started on this story. I’ll let you know what it is once it’s official.

Meanwhile, The Veiled Path to Destiny is closer to being done. I thought about sharing another snippet with you from it, but decided to share one from Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams~The Veil Book 1…for those who have not read book 1 yet.

Excerpt from Chapter 4

The mist cleared and Daria found herself in a forest glade lit by tiny globes of light that seemed to hover in the air. She could hear the gentle gurgling of a nearby stream. Glancing down at herself, Daria held her arms out in front of her body, astonished at the gown of gold silk that she wore. Never had she owned anything like it. Never had she seen or worn anything like it. Tiny, barely there straps clung to the edges of her shoulders, keeping the deep v fitted bodice from falling down. The skirt of the gown clung to her form without being tight and fell to the ground in a cloud of golden silk with a train that seemed impossible to walk with. The grass beneath her bare feet was a thick, soft blanket of green.

Iauron stood in the shadows, drinking her in. It had been so long since his ancient eyes had seen her. He could feel Verisiel’s essence flowing through the form of this human female that looked so much like her. He knew he must tread slowly as not to frighten her. Though she held the spirit of Verisiel within her, she was still very human in her thinking, and a very young human in comparison to his many centuries of existence.

“Tá tú go hálainn,” he said softly from his place in the shadows, wanting to give her a chance to acclimate to the idea that she was not here alone. He watched as she spun towards his voice, her delicate features showing a trace of shock and wariness.

Startled at the sound of a masculine voice, Daria spun around and noted that a fast escape would be next to impossible with the gown twisting around her ankles. She cleared her throat, swallowing her fear. “Excuse me?”

“Tá tú go hálainn,” Iauron repeated, stepping out into the open.

Daria looked up at the man stepping through the curtain of trees. He was taller than any man she had ever seen. The black leather jerkin framed the bare skin of his broad chest. The leather pants that clung to his muscular legs like a second skin disappeared into the boots that rode up over his knees, making her aware of her own bare feet. Her eyes travelled back up his body to his chiseled face with piercing sapphire blue eyes that stared at her with a knowing gleam. A smile curved one side of his mouth. She felt her knees knocking and the core of her body heating in response. Blushing, she hoped he hadn’t noticed the uncharacteristic reaction to him. The teasing glint in his eyes told her that he hadn’t missed a thing. She nearly groaned in embarrassment.

She raised a hand to her chest and took a deep breath, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what you said.” She frowned, “I don’t even know if you know what I’m saying. I apologize if I disturbed you, I didn’t realize anyone was here.” Bending slightly, she reached down to untangle the gown from her legs and turned to leave, “If you’ll excuse me.”

Iauron was amused by her babbling, a trait she had always had when he managed to fluster her. “You are beautiful.” His words managed to stay her intended flight. “Tá tú go hálainn means, you are beautiful,” he spoke softly and slowly approached her as one would approach a skittish doe.

She looked down at the gown, “It’s a very beautiful gown.”

Though he ached to touch her, he sensed that she was ready to bolt. He walked around her tense form to face her. “The gown is lovely, but ‘tis you who are beautiful.”

Daria looked down at her toes peeking beneath the hem of the gown and shook her head.

Iauron gently placed his fingertips beneath her chin and raised her face, smiling as she lifted her silver iridescent eyes to his, “Yes, mo chroí. Never doubt it. You are the truest beauty to be found in any realm.”

Another Thursday Another Snippet

In the previous snippets, we’ve seen exchanges between all the characters but the *whispers* villian….Dramorion. So to shut him up so I can enjoy my coffee in peace, here is a sneak peek at how Dramorion is doing.

Remember…this is unedited and subject to change.

Dramorion’s body ached. No, he decided. Ache was to tame a word for what he was feeling. He hurt. His mind was still swimming in the dark abyss, but there was a glimmer light above him that hadn’t been there before. He had also become slightly more aware of his form. Was his endless torture coming to an end?

He pushed and clawed his way towards the brightness overhead, fighting against the currents wrapping around his limbs and neck trying to drag him back down into the darkness. His muscles burned with the effort. His heart pounded in his chest and echoed in his ears. Inch by inch, the darkness receded with the growing brightness of the light. Chest heaving, he reached out a hand, grasping for something to hold on to, lest he fall back down into the inky depths of pain.

The fugue state of his mind burned away beneath the expanding illumination burning his eyes, accompanied with the memory of a prophesy heralding the new era for the Fae with the progeny of the King and his chosen Queen, which spurred him on. He had failed in his attempt to rid the universe of Verisiel over a millennium ago. He would not fail again. Gathering his waning strength, Dramorion squeezed his eyes shut and made a final lunge for the surface.

Teaser Thursday

Remember that light in the tunnel I told you about a couple of posts ago? Well it’s getting brighter! WooHoo!

That being said…I thought I’d share another unedited snippet from The Veiled Path to Destiny~The Veil Book 2, with you.

“I love the reaction your body has when I pay attention to that particular spot.” Iauron whispered in her ear, his hands skimming up the sides of her torso to cup her breasts. His thumbs brushed across swollen peaks of her nipples pushing at the cloth of her shirt. “Now this is a glorious sight.” She gasped as his fingers and thumb tweaked the sensitive buds only to release them and take a step back.

An incredulous expression across her features, Daria spun around to face Iauron. “Where are you going?”

A knowing smirk curved the corners of his mouth. A teasing gleam shimmered in his blue eyes. “Exploring of course.” Holding a hand out to her, he started walking backwards. “Are you coming?’

Daria glared at Iauron. The amusement radiating off of him had her gritting her teeth. “Fine.” She grumbled, bending down to pick up her discarded sweater.

“Leave it.” Iauron uttered, stalling her reach.

“I might need it if it gets cold.” She argued.

“I promise to keep you warm should you catch a chill.”

Daria walked towards him. “I’m going to hold you to that promise.” Daria warned, placing her much smaller hand onto his.

Iauron raised her hand to his mouth, “Trust me to see to your every need, mo chroí.” He beseeched her, brushing the back of her fingers with his lips. Tucking her hand into the crook of his arm, he winked at her. “Come, lass. We have much to see and much to do.”

“You’re awfully bossy, you do know that, right?” Daria asked, falling into step with him.

“Consider it one of the perks of being King.”

She shook her head. “Tell me another perk.”

Continuing to hold her hand against his arm and walk, Iauron looked down at her. All joviality left his face. “Claiming you as my Queen once again.”

Feeling the flush heat up her cheeks, Daria tore her gaze from his soul piercing one and scraped her teeth across her bottom lip. “I don’t know what say to that.” She confessed.

Iauron halted their walk an stood in front of her. Lifting her chin with his free hand, he pressed his lips to her forehead. “Fret not about a responding, little one.” He replaced his lips on her brow with his forehead, and stared into her eyes. “It is but a truth that needs neither acknowledgment nor a response. It just simply is.”

Teaser Tuesday on Thursday

It’s Thursday! I wish I could say I have some sort of witty anecdote to share with you. Unfortunately, not enough caffeine has made it to my brain to wake it up. So, I thought I’d share another tidbit from The Veil Path to Destiny~The Veil Book 2. Remember, it’s unedited and subject to change.

(in this scene Coipeail has been searching for Daria’s cousin, Celine, who has been missing. His search has taken him to her design studio where he is able to finally make a mental connection with her.)

Celine’s eyes squinted in suspicion, “Who are you? Where are you? What do you want?” She fired off her questions in rapid succession.

His laughter sent shivers down her spine. “Aren’t you a feisty one?”

“If by feisty you mean I’m not a simpering maid waiting for her knight in shining armor to rescue her, then yes. I am feisty.”

“Ah, but rescue you is what I have been tasked with doing. As for shining armor, I fear I am lacking in that department.”

“Who are you?” She countered, refusing to acknowledge the thinly veiled flirtation.

“Curious as a cat you are.”

“And you’re as slippery as an eel,” she retorted.

“An interesting analogy lass,” he acknowledged. “As much as I enjoy testing my wit against yours, I need to know where you are before our connection is lost.”

“Why? Why are you looking for me in the first place? Who are you?”

Celine could hear his sigh of frustration in her head. “Has anyone ever told you that you are the definition of vexing, lass?”

“Constantly. Now answer my questions.”

So Many Books…So Little Time

Once upon a time, it wasn’t unusual for me to read at least 3-4 books a week. Anymore, I’m lucky to read a book a month. Writing has taken over my free time, and I wouldn’t change that, but I really…REALLY…miss reading. The lack of reading time, however, hasn’t stemmed my book buying. Nope. I still buy the books of my favorite authors, and my shelves are full of books that are waiting to be read. How many books are on your to be read bookshelf?

I have promised myself that once The Veiled Path to Destiny is in the hands of the readers, I would take the time to catch up on my reading. In the meantime…there is writing to be done and a story to be told.

Perchance to Dream

Everyone has dreams, the kind of dreams that are of things they want to accomplish, obtain, become. I once dreamed of being a dancer on the stage. I accomplished that goal. It didn’t last as long as I had hoped it would, but I had my moments on the stage. I felt my soul take flight with every leap, and I was free from all thoughts and constraints of life outside the stage doors. It was glorious.

I could have gone back to the stage after I had my son, but I couldn’t justify, to myself, the amount of time away that working, rehearsals, and performances would have required. And that’s alright, because becoming a mother wasn’t something I was planning on, but had dreamed of being when I was little. Probably why I loved baby dolls, but loathed Barbies. lol  A different part of my soul took flight when looked into his eyes…and still does.

I’d embarked on the journey to becoming a writer. It started out with doing NaNoWriMo…just to see if I could do it, and because some of my friends were doing it too. Sometimes courage is found in having like minds trying to achieve the same goal you are. I didn’t think anyone would ever read that story, nor that I would someday be published. It was but a dream.

Dreams do come true, though. I expanded and finished that story that started out as a NaNo “let’s see if we have the chops to write” story and Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams has been published.  I’m working on the second book of the series. I have to admit…the second book is harder for me to write. It’s been a struggle. Not because the story isn’t there, it is. I have to find the words to convey what I see in my head. I tend to  overthink scenes instead of spewing it out onto the page to edit later. I want it as close to perfect as I type it as it can be before revisions and edits take place. And sometimes, I have to get out of my own head. Stumbling blocks, I’m convinced, are sometimes of our own making.

To share your dreams with others is scary. It’s sharing a part of your soul that isn’t normally seen until you put your work on display for others to view and judge. No doubt about it, working for your dreams are hard, but then nothing worthwhile ever comes easy and the rewards for achieving said dreams are sweet, So you can either keep dreaming with your eyes closed, or you can open your eyes and work your butt off for them, because they will never come true if you just sit around and daydream about what you want most.

Until next week….Happy Reading!
