MPD-Pending

There are some weeks where you want to climb into a book and escape from the real world. This is okay, unless you are working on a couple of different deadlines and every minute of writing time you can squeeze into a day is essential to meeting said deadlines.

To meet these deadlines, I’ve been trying to work on two different stories at the same time. No, there is no way to get them mixed up. They are different sub-genres beneath the romance genre. On one hand, it’s sort of good to step into a different world when the one you’re working on is giving you fits. On the other hand, there’s a real possibility that I may develop multiple personality disorder before the summer is over. I’m sure one of my personalities will let you know my mental status then…or my publisher may let your know where my padded room is located. If you come to visit, I’ll be the one in the bedazzled, purple, hug-me jacket. A girl has to have her bling.

So, until next week…do what I wish I could take a week or so to do, and read a good book or two. Happy Reading!

New year – New…what?

Some days, I amaze myself.
Others, I wonder how I managed to wear matching shoes.

Lately, I’m finding that my head is often on autopilot. I think it’s a defense mechanism because I’ve got such a miasma going on. Different works, different research projects for others, different genres, and the daily stuff I seldom think about until after…

This week is a great example:
Today, there are multiple daycause promotions going live for a set that releases next week. Once Upon A Twisted Time, and I have 2 writing/marketing webinars tonight.
Tomorrow, the Dark Rising set goes live, there is the release day party for it, and there is a promotion going up for Book of Time on FreeBooksy.
Wednesday the Fussy Librarian is taking a crack at Once Upon A Twisted Time, and it’s my federal compliance call in for the day gig.
Thursday…believe it or not, I think I have a cave day to write.
Friday, Once Upon a Twisted Time is going out in the PNR Lovers Newsletter and I have a day of conference calls.
Saturday is a different kind of crazy that I’ll leave at that, and
Sunday I’m meeting with a promoter to talk shop for a late lunch.

NO WONDER I’m not hitting my word counts or MS deadlines cleanly…I’m only getting one word day a week.

I think I’m forgetting things too. Which is really the bigger fear, because the stuff I know about, I know will get handled…it’s the stuff I forget about that will likely land me in hot water. If I’m lucky the hot water will have bubbles and not salt. 😉

Til next time…save a hug-me jacket for me.

Mwah!

New year…New…Nah – Rinse & repeat

Every time I think I’m going to embark on the new ground I thought I’d be covering, something really familiar jumps up and says, “Psych.”

Been there, done that…kinda like most things…only hitting a different beginning on the wheel I know so well. The trick will be avoiding the spots where I blew through the structure and fell before. I think I can do it.

New to me this year…though still a writing, editing, formatting, publishing event is Kindle Worlds. I’ve never done one, though I was invited previously. Whelp, today is the day. The release is not officially until tomorrow…but the almighty Zon popped the links and the 20 new Paranormal Dating Agency stories are up for readers to devour. If you’re on facebook…you should check out the group where the authors will be doing the launch tomorrow…MT Kindle Worlds I think it’s called. There are PRIZES for reading. WHO KNEW?!

Anyhoop, in the interest of getting back on the wheel before it laps me, I’ll just drop the fancy lil link right HERE and say Enjoy!

Thanks for checking it out. Who knows…I’m supposed to do a couple more of these things…this could be a new hump on the proverbial wheel of Savie. Let’s see how fast I can run.

New Year – Monday feels the same

Monday…just the word is menacing and foreboding, eh? This Monday is month end, quarter end, surgery for my father, wrap the to-do list, and pack for another signing day…which may spill into Tuesday at this rate.

I cannot possibly tell you about the last two weeks…but they’ve been manic, to say the least. I was asked last year about doing a Kindle World. No way that was going to fit into the agenda, so I begged off to wait for 2018. Guess what? 2018 arrived while I wasn’t looking and WHAM…here we are. I was supposed to do the KW in the summer and fall, but some other projects shifted and I thought, “Why not?”
Yeah…I’m just that crazy.

SO, I spent the 30+ total hours of road time to the coast and back working on the verbal manuscript…and a couple of other books via plotting and outlining techniques. Some schedule shifting is probably imminent…but now, so is a Kindle World release for Paranormal Dating Agency. Might I introduce you to Baiting a Berserker…joining the lineup for the April 10th PDA KW release group? 🙂

Addian Hevir doesn’t want a mate, he needs one…to save his clan, and himself before the beast within consumes what’s left of his humanity. As a berserker, it’s only a matter of time before one, or both happen. Time is perilously short.

Fynn Barrow has had more than her share of Mr. Wrongs. A strong, independent Mer-woman, she’s not going to be content with just any man. She needs to be wanted by one who can meet her challenges in return. She’s not interested in playing the damsel in distress, or the dutiful housewife, to anyone.

Gerri confidently pairs them, but it only takes one meeting for them both to have doubts. Can two dominant personalities find balance to come together before others interfere and send one to their death, and the other back to square one? Or, will it take the imminent threat to drive them where they need to be?

There you have it, and it’s the test…because I’m still tapped for summer and fall KW releases, which honestly is a weird idea to me. I’m used to writing around the literary world wherever the muse goes…this sticking in one place will take some adjusting. Let me know how I do.

Working Together

The book world is this strange and beautiful place where women and men write, talk to and about, argue with, dream about, and kill off, people who only exist in our imaginations. Some who don’t get it would say…there are meds for that. lol

Beyond the characters who live between the covers, the book world is huge. It’s a world that consists of authors, editors, beta readers, cover designers, formatters, publishers, and readers. It can be a well oiled machine working together to produce a piece of work to proudly present to the public.

Is it always pretty a pretty and harmonious place to be? Absolutely not, but then the same can be said about any group of people working together or in the same field. There will always be drama…there will always be drama llama’s…and there will always be those who pour gasoline onto the drama fire to dance gleefully around it. Protect your sanity and weed those people out. There is just not enough hours in the day, energy in the universe, or caffeine flowing through the blood vessels to deal with that. lol

At times, a group of authors will come together to put a collection of stories within a certain theme together to become either an anthology or a boxset. I’m doing a boxset due out in May and pre-order links are available if you would like to make sure you get it…hint hint.. 🙂

Look Who Wants Their Story Told

I think making plans is along the same lines of juggling. It’s all good and great until something or someone throws a monkey wrench at you and all the balls go flying every which way.

As you know, or maybe you don’t, I’ve been working of a fairytale re-telling story for a box set. Next on the agenda was a story that was sort of kind of plotted out with Savannah 3 years ago, but Celine, Daria’s cousin from the Veil series, has decided she needs and wants her story told. And truth be told, I’ve had some readers asking for her story too, which may be why Celine woke up and said, “Hey!” Anyway…I appeased her by starting chapter 1 of her yet to be titled book. Here’s a looksy of the totally unedited and subject to change first paragraph:

The morning’s light streamed through the panes of glass, cutting a swath between the twin curtains fluttering on the current of the wind of the open window. A new day had begun. Laying beneath the multi-colored comforter, Celine found she no longer looked forward to uncovering new discoveries, but the day, and her employees, didn’t care about her current melancholy. The minutes and hours would continue to tick forward, her staff had expectations that she would continue to garner business to ensure their healthy paychecks padded their pockets and checking accounts. She was needed, and yet…she wasn’t. © Jolanthe Aleksander 2018

Keeps your fingers crossed, that keeps her quiet for a little bit. I’ve got a fairytale to finish up.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Two Years and Counting

Wow! Two years and two days ago I sent my baby, Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams, out into the world to make its debut. Two years and two days ago I became a published author. It seems surreal at times, until I meet those readers and bloggers who have read my story and want more, until I read the reviews from people I may or may never meet.

Have you read Beyond the Veil of Whispered Dreams? Here is what some of the reviews had to say about it:

Exciting new story!

Format: Paperback
3 3/4 Stars! Great start to a new series!
Very promising beginning to a new series! This is a story where the Fae Queen is missing but is found in the human realm. She is no longer in fae form but reincarnated as a human.

Beyond the veil

An entertaining and sexy start of a new fantasy series. I enjoyed the tension and romance between the characters. I’m a huge fan of fan so I was excited to read a new story about them.

Actively baffled-

A long while back…or at least it seems like a long while back, it really wasn’t, I decided that in 2017 I was going to catch up. ’16 had damn near killed me, and my drive…I wanted a do-over.

The goal: Fulfill the docket from 16, and add 17 to the mix…meaning, EIGHT releases…EIGHT releases of MY OWN. Not counting an edit for someone else, or a publishing job for the house, that would all be extra…eight Savie V. releases.

Folks said I was crazy. Heck, I said I was crazy…I was right. I was, still am.

BUT…I did it. Gravedigger releases this coming Saturday. I confirmed it with the final upload around 12:30 this morning. I’ve been sussing over it for weeks now, not happy with little pieces here or there. I was seriously debating killing my ability to do a preorder for the next year…and push it back or cancel the preorder all together. I was that irritated with pieces. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it though.

I’m glad I didn’t. Gravedigger has shown me something that I needed to see, and while it was enlightening…it has also left me actively baffled about where I’m going next.

I’ve called myself a Contemporary Vagabond for a long while now, and I think that will hold true…but, I’m seeing a few things shift as I’ve been writing this year; my tendencies narrowing, my tastes…refining perhaps, and my choices…they don’t surprise me as much as they used to. I am enjoying writing certain genres and twists more than others, and I’m harder-pressed to turn down some things than others.

The biggest shock is that a piece I wrote to stand alone…I believe is going to launch a series. I fell in love with a character who, even though the story is done and in print, won’t stop talking to me. I’ll tell you more about them soon. right now…I’m here to tell you that release #7 of the year, Gravedigger comes out this Saturday. The preorder is live for $0.99 but that price will not last. The change date is on my calendar already….don’t wait.

Release #8 of mine for the year is Veil Break. It comes out in the Haunting Savannah set on October 10th. I am thrilled to share that story in a set with other awesome writers…great all 8 stories at once…just in time for Halloween!

‘Til next time…I’m taking a day to maybe sleep normal, then packing for Penned Con in St. Louis. The writing parts may be done, but the adventure always beckons.

see you soon.

Support hose on standby

I’ve never felt so old in my life.

A former assistant of mine was fond of commenting how the body began its crumble at 40. I laughed at her for years…
Having managed to eeek out another decade before mine started giving in, I guess I should be grateful, but MANNNNN, there are days when I’m thinking the years since 40 conspired and jumped to catch up all at once! My bones hurt, and my muscles argue for days after I do any project that is remotely physical.

My mad scramble lately has been wrapping a couple of writing projects for deadlines so I could get my office moved out of the lower level where just about every recent storm has decided to come in. Saturday night at 10:52 CST, the last of the words were sent off and it was time. The next line of storms are already tracking this way. I had to move quickly.

Over the next 24 hours, THIS…

…became this.

It sure feels empty now.
I’ll be spending the next week or so getting everything re-homed in the new space. Paint and recently shampooed carpets weren’t quite dry…so I’m giving it time. (or, maybe it’s just me needing a break.)

Either way, I’ve earned a respite…a day or two anyway. Stories #5 & #6 of 8 for 2017 have whisked away to where they need to be and it will be time to take #7 & #8 off the shelf to rework, clean, & polish once the office is back up. I can ill-afford the day…but at the same time, there isn’t another one coming soon, or in sight.  I set a heavy load & aggressive pace for this year. I’m determined to complete (and survive) it. Come November…Scotch for everyone. I’m pouring if I can move. 🙂

Til next time…all the usuals; read something good, take care of you, and keep checking my facebook page and author website, I’m still in the midst of cover reveals, preorders going live, and author features for my co-conspirators in Cimmerian Shade. Don’t miss out!!

Covers, covers…everywhere!

Posting on Mondays is odd sometimes…especially when covers are revealed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. This past week, my PA started a promo/review tour for me that includes the cover reveal for Book III in The Custos Series – Book of Mysteries. Soon, I’ll be able to share the story – but for now…here’s the blurb & the cover, graced by a good friend of mine, Eric Jacob.

Book of Mysteries The Custos Book III

Release Date – September 2017 Pre-Order coming soon

Twins Poppy and Bergie share everything, including an ability to read the mysterious book that Bergie gets Mardi Gras Day when the Muddy Graws debut in the big parade. Not to be left behind, Poppy inserts herself into the twisting turn of events when she takes the book from its hiding place and changes everything, shifting the balance between light and dark.

Sebastian Winder has his hands full. The new Keeper has a twin who knows more than she should and is being actively recruited by White Diamond. Fearing the worst, the Custos guardian asks for an assistant. Who he gets is as green a Custos as there ever was, fresh from the Farther Fields, Ramsby Roth.

In this third installment of The Custos series, it might take every one available to keep the book from the wrong hands as the odds are stacking against them. Just when they think the end is in sight, World War I erupts, Bergie is sent to serve, and Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans are cancelled.

How can they keep the book safe now?

Only the book knows.

NEXT WEEK – I have ANOTHER cover reveal for Imposs-i-Bella. Sadly, unless you’ll be joining me at Writers on the River in Peoria this Saturday, you’ll have to wait 2 weeks to see it here since it comes out on Wednesday…
