Support hose on standby

I’ve never felt so old in my life.

A former assistant of mine was fond of commenting how the body began its crumble at 40. I laughed at her for years…
Having managed to eeek out another decade before mine started giving in, I guess I should be grateful, but MANNNNN, there are days when I’m thinking the years since 40 conspired and jumped to catch up all at once! My bones hurt, and my muscles argue for days after I do any project that is remotely physical.

My mad scramble lately has been wrapping a couple of writing projects for deadlines so I could get my office moved out of the lower level where just about every recent storm has decided to come in. Saturday night at 10:52 CST, the last of the words were sent off and it was time. The next line of storms are already tracking this way. I had to move quickly.

Over the next 24 hours, THIS…

…became this.

It sure feels empty now.
I’ll be spending the next week or so getting everything re-homed in the new space. Paint and recently shampooed carpets weren’t quite dry…so I’m giving it time. (or, maybe it’s just me needing a break.)

Either way, I’ve earned a respite…a day or two anyway. Stories #5 & #6 of 8 for 2017 have whisked away to where they need to be and it will be time to take #7 & #8 off the shelf to rework, clean, & polish once the office is back up. I can ill-afford the day…but at the same time, there isn’t another one coming soon, or in sight.  I set a heavy load & aggressive pace for this year. I’m determined to complete (and survive) it. Come November…Scotch for everyone. I’m pouring if I can move. 🙂

Til next time…all the usuals; read something good, take care of you, and keep checking my facebook page and author website, I’m still in the midst of cover reveals, preorders going live, and author features for my co-conspirators in Cimmerian Shade. Don’t miss out!!

Covers, covers…everywhere!

Posting on Mondays is odd sometimes…especially when covers are revealed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. This past week, my PA started a promo/review tour for me that includes the cover reveal for Book III in The Custos Series – Book of Mysteries. Soon, I’ll be able to share the story – but for now…here’s the blurb & the cover, graced by a good friend of mine, Eric Jacob.

Book of Mysteries The Custos Book III

Release Date – September 2017 Pre-Order coming soon

Twins Poppy and Bergie share everything, including an ability to read the mysterious book that Bergie gets Mardi Gras Day when the Muddy Graws debut in the big parade. Not to be left behind, Poppy inserts herself into the twisting turn of events when she takes the book from its hiding place and changes everything, shifting the balance between light and dark.

Sebastian Winder has his hands full. The new Keeper has a twin who knows more than she should and is being actively recruited by White Diamond. Fearing the worst, the Custos guardian asks for an assistant. Who he gets is as green a Custos as there ever was, fresh from the Farther Fields, Ramsby Roth.

In this third installment of The Custos series, it might take every one available to keep the book from the wrong hands as the odds are stacking against them. Just when they think the end is in sight, World War I erupts, Bergie is sent to serve, and Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans are cancelled.

How can they keep the book safe now?

Only the book knows.

NEXT WEEK – I have ANOTHER cover reveal for Imposs-i-Bella. Sadly, unless you’ll be joining me at Writers on the River in Peoria this Saturday, you’ll have to wait 2 weeks to see it here since it comes out on Wednesday…

Aaaaaaand….Send!

I’m done. It’s done. The edits and read-through for The Veiled Path to Destiny~The Veil Book 2 are done!

This book has been my companion, some times combative, some times as silent as a church mouse, for over a year. It was a late bloomer. At times, the characters were reluctant to share their tale, as if sensing their story was coming to an end. But tell it they did. I can hope the words I wove together did their story justice, and you, the reader, enjoy reading about their journey.

This morning, I sent The Veiled Path to Destiny to my publisher. From there it will find itself in the hands of the formatter, who will work their magic, taking a word document and turning it into the form of a book.

The release date is July 8th.It will make its debut at Writer’s on the River in Peoria. Keep watching for the cover reveal.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

WOWSA!

This week…set 1 of 2 in April drops for me. I’m so stinking proud of the group of authors in the Sultry & Sinful: Femmes of Paranormal group. We had an absolute blast and the hashtags for our little company of crazy will be bouncing around forever for us I’m sure. I can’t wait to work with these ladies again!

This set is about the relationship between two women. It is, to our thinking, an underrepresented genre in the word world. Regardless of what you personally prefer, love is love, and these stories take it to the next level…because, well it’s paranormal on top of being F/F. The stories are diverse and cover the spectrum; sweet, sassy, sultry, sexy, sinful…we’ve got all you S’s covered here.

Dropping tomorrow, you can still grab yours today at the preorder price of $0.99. Such a deal!

As I mentioned last week. I was just at North Iowa Book Bash. I love this event so hard. Here’s a couple of images from the event…yes, we do start signings by popping champagne…doesn’t everyone?

I had the great joy of getting to have a snap with the always amazing Jenna Jacob…and that handsome guy is Eric Jacob…the cover model I told you about last week. He’s a great example of how to be…say hello to him when you get the chance!

As I’ve been playing taskmaster on the youngest to wrap her online class, I’m behind schedule. Just in time, as I begin working on Ela’s…these little lovelies show up…INSPIRATION for sure!

And now…I’ll get back to the pages because…well, I took some time away and it’s time to put the hammer down. Read something great until I see you again! ~Sav

Deadlines, and other dirty words

For all the curse words that I know, none strikes more dread than the ‘big D’ word, Deadline. I have, for all intents and purposes, driven myself bonkers trying to stay on point amid copious distractions. As the end draws up though, I have, as I always do, that huge fear that I’m going to miss. This one, and the next 3 are no different.

As is always the case, life happens.

This year has been exponentially difficult. The things we saw coming and the ones we never expected to take place. Still, the big D comes when it is scheduled and there is seldom wiggle room. Sitting at the computer transcribing page after page of scribbles seems to be a betrayal of sorts to family and friends who need me, or who want nothing more than to sit through a marathon of Bones…yes, it’s a guilty pleasure to stoically watch a screen for no other reason than because the person on the sofa next to me is home.

I’m not really a television or movie aficionado, more I am an addict to the notion that time is the greater gain. Laughing at antics that have been put before us on the screen are merely a way to quench the need. And, sometimes, that too is not enough.

But, here I sit, typing away because I’ve left it to chance that I would not finish and that is inexcusable. It is however the nature of me. I am not the writer cursed with hitting the dreaded wall time over time. No, I am the writer who finds ten thousand reasons to wait another day and put off for tomorrow because today will never come again. Procrastination my friends, is real and a vicious adversary.

As with many times before now, I have waited again too long to take up the long bow and slay this dragon. As with other times before though, when the time is ripe with strife and worry, I find that I can and will do what needs doing to make this battle another strike to the win column. That said, I have about fifty pages left to go, and there is no time left to dawdle, so I’m off to do what needs doing. See you on the other side of ‘Then End.’

When inspiration eludes you

There is nothing more frustrating than looking at your computer seeing that cursor blinking at you having nothing come to mind. It is not really writers block. You know what you want to say, you just don’t know how to put it on the page.

That is when inspiration eludes you. I have so many ideas running around in my head. It is almost causing a traffic jam. This is the time that you have to decide to either focus on one project or work on multiple ones.

Whichever of these methods works better for you, it will most likely help to get your mind less cluttered. I find that if I can get some of it down I can focus a little better and then I can clean it up and inspiration then strikes and I can move on and the projects take off.

If I have too much vying for my attention it is hard for me to focus on anything. Inspiration can be fickle. As long as you don’t try and force it, though, it can always be found.

When life gets in the way

We all have busy lives. What we have to remember is to make time to get the important things done. Between the day job, kids, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, and the daily chores, sometimes writing and editing gets put on the back burner.

When I do get to the writing and editing I feel so much better. It is my outlet. It is what I love to do. I have started to make sure that I make time for my writing. It is important to me so it needs to be a priority. Yes, life gets in the way, but writing is part of my life.

Always make time for what is important to you in your life!

When to move on

We are always told we have to fight for what we want. That is true. There also comes a time, though, when we have to think about what we really want. We all know what our end goal is. That does not always mean that everything we thought would come with it will be there.

We have to fight for the things that really matter but sometimes we have to let go of the things aren’t necessary. We have to recognize when it is time to give up the fight and move on. That can be the most difficult thing to face. To admit that you have to give up something you put your time and energy in to. Something you pinned your hope on. That doesn’t mean it didn’t serve it’s purpose on your journey, it only means that it’s purpose is done. Now it is time for you to move on to your next phase.

I have always been a fighter. I have never been very good at giving up on a fight even when I have seen it was a time to give up. I could clearly see that I would lose but I would go down fighting. The older I get the more that I see there is no point in that. I can now see when it is time to move on to something new. When something has served it purpose in my life I can smile and be thankful for the good and part on good terms instead of burning a bridge that has no reason to be burned.

This is an important lesson to be learned in the book world. As you make connections and network you can always go back to people that you have met in the past. You may not have talked that person in years but as long as you did not burn that bridge you can still talk to them and have a nice conversation and talk books at the next event you run into them again. There is no tension and there is no problem with not getting to go to an event you want to go to because of a feud.

Words said in anger will haunt you. Fighting for the sake of fighting will only hurt you in the long run. Learning when to move on is what will make you the happiest. Not everyone will understand this, but it is not for everyone to understand. It is for you to be happy with your life.
