Support hose on standby

I’ve never felt so old in my life.

A former assistant of mine was fond of commenting how the body began its crumble at 40. I laughed at her for years…
Having managed to eeek out another decade before mine started giving in, I guess I should be grateful, but MANNNNN, there are days when I’m thinking the years since 40 conspired and jumped to catch up all at once! My bones hurt, and my muscles argue for days after I do any project that is remotely physical.

My mad scramble lately has been wrapping a couple of writing projects for deadlines so I could get my office moved out of the lower level where just about every recent storm has decided to come in. Saturday night at 10:52 CST, the last of the words were sent off and it was time. The next line of storms are already tracking this way. I had to move quickly.

Over the next 24 hours, THIS…

…became this.

It sure feels empty now.
I’ll be spending the next week or so getting everything re-homed in the new space. Paint and recently shampooed carpets weren’t quite dry…so I’m giving it time. (or, maybe it’s just me needing a break.)

Either way, I’ve earned a respite…a day or two anyway. Stories #5 & #6 of 8 for 2017 have whisked away to where they need to be and it will be time to take #7 & #8 off the shelf to rework, clean, & polish once the office is back up. I can ill-afford the day…but at the same time, there isn’t another one coming soon, or in sight.  I set a heavy load & aggressive pace for this year. I’m determined to complete (and survive) it. Come November…Scotch for everyone. I’m pouring if I can move. 🙂

Til next time…all the usuals; read something good, take care of you, and keep checking my facebook page and author website, I’m still in the midst of cover reveals, preorders going live, and author features for my co-conspirators in Cimmerian Shade. Don’t miss out!!

Covers, covers…everywhere!

Posting on Mondays is odd sometimes…especially when covers are revealed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. This past week, my PA started a promo/review tour for me that includes the cover reveal for Book III in The Custos Series – Book of Mysteries. Soon, I’ll be able to share the story – but for now…here’s the blurb & the cover, graced by a good friend of mine, Eric Jacob.

Book of Mysteries The Custos Book III

Release Date – September 2017 Pre-Order coming soon

Twins Poppy and Bergie share everything, including an ability to read the mysterious book that Bergie gets Mardi Gras Day when the Muddy Graws debut in the big parade. Not to be left behind, Poppy inserts herself into the twisting turn of events when she takes the book from its hiding place and changes everything, shifting the balance between light and dark.

Sebastian Winder has his hands full. The new Keeper has a twin who knows more than she should and is being actively recruited by White Diamond. Fearing the worst, the Custos guardian asks for an assistant. Who he gets is as green a Custos as there ever was, fresh from the Farther Fields, Ramsby Roth.

In this third installment of The Custos series, it might take every one available to keep the book from the wrong hands as the odds are stacking against them. Just when they think the end is in sight, World War I erupts, Bergie is sent to serve, and Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans are cancelled.

How can they keep the book safe now?

Only the book knows.

NEXT WEEK – I have ANOTHER cover reveal for Imposs-i-Bella. Sadly, unless you’ll be joining me at Writers on the River in Peoria this Saturday, you’ll have to wait 2 weeks to see it here since it comes out on Wednesday…

Cross off one – Add six

The days are a blur as I try to manage a huge list. I am working on a release for one of the house authors as I have multiple deadlines of my own. I have an upcoming signing event that I’m trying to gear up for as I try to put together the Graduation party for child #2 who wrapped high school up in 3 years instead of 4.

The list is getting checked off, but I swear as soon as I get one done, there are a half-dozen more that magically appear. The list is a rabbit y’all!

For now…so I can keep strangling the bits to do what needs doing…here’s the latest release news I have for you. 🙂 Rogue, my latest work is available for preorder in the Limited Edition Set Cimmerian Shade…have a peek…there’s a great list of authors here!!

Pre-Order for these 24 NEW & Exclusive stories is priced for the taking on all outlets…$0.99!

Time to make the donuts

Somedays feel like this. Others, I feel like I don’t have enough hours, can’t get enough done, or lose track of where I’m at & what I’m doing, so starting over is the best option. Time to make the donuts indeed. The days right now are a big time blur. I simply have too many projects all vying for my attention JUST as mother nature decided to stop drowning us out every day and I want to get outside and get my fingers in the soil.

On my desk sits a quote…whose? I don’t know, could be mine for all I remember. It’s just a little something written on a slip of paper with no attribution: “Life is not measured by the number of things we undertake or entertain, but by those we complete in spite of the hurdles.”

I love this. It reminds me every time I sit down that I can juggle as many things as I want, but unless I’m wrapping them up, one by one…they are only static on the journey. I can build great things and move mountains…so long as I remember that I cannot do them all simultaneously. Kinda like eating an elephant, you know?

I realized at a release party takeover I was doing over the weekend that I ooops’d and revealed a cover that hasn’t been revealed yet. LOL. Guess I’ll need to get on that soon. I have so many bits & pieces all coming to the final stages right now..that honest – I’m here, but maybe not HERE-here. So, stay tuned, keep watching…and who knows…there may be lots of surprises popping up!

Edits…Get Your Edits

Two weeks ago I sent The Veiled Path to Destiny off to my editor. It would be the first time eyes, other than mine, have read the story. Yesterday, I received my manuscript along with the editing calls in the mail. Yay…eep…yay!

I’m not going to bemoan the red ink. I’ve come to think of it as a rite of passage a story goes through to reach it’s full potential. I also think it’s sort of a rite of passage a writer goes through on the way to becoming a better writer. One might think the goal is get a story back with no red ink on it. That is just setting yourself up for failure. There are no “perfect” manuscripts out there. If you get your manuscript back with no markings, get yourself another editor, because if they don’t call your attention to mistakes in your writing that you missed before sending it their way…I can guarantee the readers will not hesitate to do so. The goal is to learn from the calls made so the same kind of calls are not made in the next story you send out for edits, at least, that is my goal anyway.

So, on that note…their are edits to get through and the day isn’t getting any longer.

p.s.: I really hope this makes sense. lol. My brain is just now waking up and there has not been nearly enough caffeine crossing the blood brain barrier to fire up all systems.  😉

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Fierce

Recently, a very dear friend of mine advised me that they love that I am ‘fierce.’ I take this as a priceless compliment. I think I am fierce too. I love fiercely, live fiercely, and charge forward with an untenable focus on my pursuits. It is no mistake that the Rhino is my logo and philosophy.

I am also fiercely loyal as a friend. I will interject myself into situations to defend when necessary, or to stand up in the stead of a friend who is not present to do so for themselves. I personally believe this is the hallmark of friendship, or at least one of them…brutal honestly, and sometimes being the director of shenanigans is also in the job description.

But…all this fierceness, makes the results fierce too. For example…the mad, crazy juggle often is the source code for a FIERCE headache, fierce disappointment, and fierce self-condemnation. I am angry and frustrated when I can’t run as hard as I feel I should, or learn something faster. I want to be better with each day, at everything I endeavor to accomplish. This is not always the reality.

As you have seen, I have been part of two recent sets with others. One was…for lack of a better description, Author Marketing 101 on crack. I have never learned so much in such a short window while at the time feeling like I dropped so many balls. I ran hard, and gave my all…and at the end of the crazy push – I am frustrated that I couldn’t learn more to do more faster. Add that everything else on my plate has sort of become soupy from running together as they got luke warm…and my frustration is ugly, and fierce.

Whatever comes next, there is a fierce pride commingled with the disappointment. Next time…I will be better, I will be faster, and I will contribute more if it kills me. Yes, I’ve said it to myself and the organizer…who assures me that growth takes time. I might believe her.

Until that, I’m re-evaluating my agenda. I still have every intention of releasing the other 5 works in 2017. The dates may juggle, but this is me being fierce…fiercely hard-headed & stubborn to achieve the goals. Which means, it’s back to the cave after I finish posting my promos for today, because juggling…often takes time that would be used for other things…and there are no more hours so NOW it is.

See you on the pages.

Snippet, snippet, here’s a snippet

I’m smack-dab in the middle of the second to last chapter of The Veil Path to Destiny. Woot Woot.

Here is the last snippet of The Veiled Path to Destiny I will share before the book is published. Remember, it’s unedited and subject to change:

Caitriona quickly gained her footing lest she be dragged down the hallway after the sudden and unexpected turn around. “Where are we going?”

Daria turned her head to look at Caitriona, her silver eyes bright with excitement she hadn’t seen in too many days to count. “Outside. The sun is shining, and I can’t wait to feel it on my skin. It’s been too long and the Goddess only knows how long it will last.”

“Are you sure we should be doing that, my lady?”

Daria smiled. “Relax, we’re only going to the gardens.”

Red curls bouncing around her shoulders, Caitriona rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I’ve heard that one before. You’re going to get me fired one of these days.”

“Pffft…Iauron won’t fire you. He’ll just withhold my orgasms for a week, and trust me, I don’t want that.” The sound of Caitriona’s choked laugh stopped Daria in her tracks. “I said that out loud didn’t I?”

Her face red with sufficed laughter, Caitriona raised a hand to cover the smile she couldn’t keep from curving the corners of her mouth, and nodded. “You did.”

Daria huffed out an exasperated breath, “Well frick! I didn’t say anything, and you…you’ll forget hearing what I didn’t say.”

Caitriona giggled, “Oh, but you did, and I won’t.”

Daria glared at Caitriona who had become more of a friend than she was a servant. “Come on, we’re burning daylight.” She groused and continued their trek down the hall.

Once Caitriona had donned her boots and coat, they made their way to the kitchen to grab some bird feed. While Caitriona filled a small tin pail, Daria snagged a fresh from the oven biscuit. Under the watchful eye of the cook, split it in two and slathered each half with a healthy dollop of honey butter from the wooden bowl sitting on the counter. She took a bite and sighed in delight at the sweetness of the butter washing over her taste buds. “Sooo good, Molly. Will you save me some for when we come back in?”

“Of course, Miss. It would be my pleasure. I’ll have a fresh batch waiting in the warmer for you along with some hot chocolate.”

Snagging another biscuit, she wrapped it in a white cloth napkin and stowed it in large pocket of her cloak. “You’re a doll, Molly.” Daria complimented her, neatly avoiding the ‘thank you’ that automatically danced at the tip of tongue.

Molly’s face flushed with pride, “Off with you two now.”

Daria hooked her arm with Caitriona’s and rushed out the kitchen door leading to the side courtyard. She lifted her face to the soft breeze as it caressed her face and neck. She deeply inhaled the crisp, cool air and smiled.

Return to the cave

I’m wrung out. Weirdly too. From Biloxi Mississippi to home is a 15 hour drive. I did that with few hiccups, though the drive to the gulf was nearly my undoing…15 hours on next to no sleep made the sway of the car far too soothing to easily continue. caffeine was my friend.  North Iowa Book Bash is a mere 4.4 hours away…should be able to do that blindfolded and in full zombie, but the return trip this time kicked my ass.

The great thing about it is that I sold out of 2 titles, and liberated most of my swag inventory….which means…I get to order books and choose new swag. YIPPPEEEE….it’s like a holiday all over again. My Mardi Gras connection is getting a call ASAP! I need more goodies with Book of Mysteries hitting this summer.

Seriously though, BFF Bookies do such a great job of putting on an amazing event. I swear – it’s like a reunion with all the folks that you shared the kids table with at Christmas and conspired with on how to liberate the desserts without the grown ups noticing. SO MUCH FUN! I will return every year they’ll have me. TRUTH. Normally, I’m a full table girl cuz I like to spread out. This year I had a half and shared which was fine…but I’d sit at a tv tray in the corner if I had to…if you’re in range – PUT THIS ON YOUR TO DO LIST! I promise you’ll thank me.

Other than a little library thing…I’m in the cave now. I’ve WAY overloaded my calendar and I’m raring to get on it. I’ve got a box set and an anthology releasing this month yet…but I’ve got FIVE more releases happening THIS YEAR…and after a brain detour in Clear Lake…I may be swapping a cover out yet for one of those (or quite possibly two) with a model whom I’ve come to respect for his professionalism and poise in the midst of the reader event crazy. It matters…and this guy has earned the marks…hope you agree when you see the covers. It makes me happy to give back to the community that shares this writing world.

So – keep an eagle eye on the horizon…there’s gonna be something popping up often. Til then, see you on the pages.  ~Sav

Another Thursday Another Snippet

In the previous snippets, we’ve seen exchanges between all the characters but the *whispers* villian….Dramorion. So to shut him up so I can enjoy my coffee in peace, here is a sneak peek at how Dramorion is doing.

Remember…this is unedited and subject to change.

Dramorion’s body ached. No, he decided. Ache was to tame a word for what he was feeling. He hurt. His mind was still swimming in the dark abyss, but there was a glimmer light above him that hadn’t been there before. He had also become slightly more aware of his form. Was his endless torture coming to an end?

He pushed and clawed his way towards the brightness overhead, fighting against the currents wrapping around his limbs and neck trying to drag him back down into the darkness. His muscles burned with the effort. His heart pounded in his chest and echoed in his ears. Inch by inch, the darkness receded with the growing brightness of the light. Chest heaving, he reached out a hand, grasping for something to hold on to, lest he fall back down into the inky depths of pain.

The fugue state of his mind burned away beneath the expanding illumination burning his eyes, accompanied with the memory of a prophesy heralding the new era for the Fae with the progeny of the King and his chosen Queen, which spurred him on. He had failed in his attempt to rid the universe of Verisiel over a millennium ago. He would not fail again. Gathering his waning strength, Dramorion squeezed his eyes shut and made a final lunge for the surface.
