I LOVE a charity event!

A day late, but recovery from amazing takes time. I spent the lion’s share of the last six days in St. Louis at Penned Con. If you’ve never been…mark your calendars to be there next year for the event’s BIG 5TH!!

I cannot possibly say enough good things about this event or the staff who puts it together. Rick & Amy Miles, with their crew, pull off a phenomenal event bringing authors and readers together for charity…in support of Action for Autism Academy St. Louis. I am still jacked sky-high for the opportunity to stand with them again in the quest. THIS YEAR…with the added monies raised, they topped the 50K mark! KUDOS TO EVERYONE who helped make that happen…as an author, staff member, reader, blogger…whatever the role. You are a hero in my book!

This year, like before, I got to share table space with another of the Bard authors, Jolanthe Aleksander. She’s a rock star! I also got to share this year with the cover model for Book of Mysteries, Eric Jacob. He is such a great sport and, to me, a perfect addition to the event. Between his Care Bear pj’s and his winning ways with the younger attendees…it was a wonderful weekend to spend signing with him.

We raffled off two posters of the cover and had so much fun meeting new to me readers, while spinning the prize wheel with some great author friends from other events who made the trek to the Midwest to be part of the magic. I can’t wait to see what next year brings.

Next up is another charity signing…Glass City Author Event in Toledo Ohio. Last year the event raised money for RISE Toledo, a group that supports survivors of human trafficking. This year is to raise money for VetSports…if you’re not booked, I should have my voice back by then and be restocked. Come by and spend Saturday with the authors in Toledo…it’s going to be epic!

If you have copies of my latest releases…bring them with and I’ll sign them for you. No copy? No problem! I’ll have plenty at my table.

See you there!

On The Road Again

I’m up. It’s early. So early, the birds aren’t even awake yet. After a night of fighting to make it to the land of nod, and sleep being that ever elusive ship that is hard to catch in harbor especially the night before hitting the road for a signing event, I’m happy to report that I did manage to set sail, landing without incident on the far reaching shores. I’m equally happy to report that I will have 2 travelling companions. YAY! *throws confetti in the air*

Penned Con in St. Louis is this weekend. It is two…well two and a half days of fun filled activity. I can hardly wait. You will happy to know, I did remember to pack clothes. ūüôā As a bonus, the large suitcase I’m using this trip, allowed for packing of my pillow and blanket. Only thing left to pack in the toiletries and face paint.

Take a gander at what is scheduled for Penned

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Actively baffled-

A long while back…or at least it seems like a long while back, it really wasn’t, I decided that in 2017 I was going to catch up. ’16 had damn near killed me, and my drive…I wanted a do-over.

The goal: Fulfill the docket from 16, and add 17 to the mix…meaning, EIGHT releases…EIGHT releases of MY OWN. Not counting¬†an edit for someone else,¬†or a publishing job for the house, that would all be extra…eight Savie V. releases.

Folks said I was crazy. Heck, I said I was crazy…I was right. I was, still am.

BUT…I did it. Gravedigger releases this coming Saturday. I confirmed it with the final upload around 12:30 this morning. I’ve been sussing over it for weeks now, not happy with little pieces here or there. I was seriously debating killing my ability to do a preorder for the next year…and push it back or cancel the preorder all together. I was that irritated with pieces. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it though.

I’m glad I didn’t. Gravedigger has shown me something that I needed to see, and while it was enlightening…it has also left me actively baffled about where I’m going next.

I’ve called myself a Contemporary Vagabond for a long while now, and I think that will hold true…but, I’m seeing a few things shift as I’ve been writing this year; my tendencies narrowing, my tastes…refining perhaps, and my choices…they don’t surprise me as much as they used to. I am enjoying writing certain genres and twists more than others, and I’m harder-pressed to turn down some things than others.

The biggest shock is that a piece I wrote to stand alone…I believe is going to launch a series. I fell in love with a character who, even though the story is done and in print, won’t stop talking to me. I’ll tell you more about them soon. right now…I’m here to tell you that release #7 of the year, Gravedigger comes out this Saturday. The preorder is live for $0.99 but that price will not last. The change date is on my calendar already….don’t wait.

Release #8 of mine for the year is Veil Break. It comes out in the Haunting Savannah set on October 10th. I am thrilled to share that story in a set with other awesome writers…great all 8 stories at once…just in time for Halloween!

‘Til next time…I’m taking a day to maybe sleep normal, then packing for Penned Con in St. Louis. The writing parts may be done, but the adventure always beckons.

see you soon.

My Pretties Arrived

Two weeks from today, I, along with some local friends, will be making the trek to St. Louis for Penned Con. This is one of my favorite events, not only for how well it’s run, but for the people and authors who attend, and for the charity, Action for Autism, the profits go to.

Aaaaaanyway……the one thing an author MUST have when attending these signings is…..BOOKS! When Irma’s direction was still in question, the organizer of Penned reminded us that one of the print distributor’s locations was in South Carolina. AAAACK! There is no way of controlling which site your books are printed at. Needless to say, I hurried home on my lunch break, placed my book order, and crossed my everythings that they would be printed and shipped before Irma hit land.

They have arriiiiiiiiiiived! My pretties are here!

The excitement of opening a box and seeing the creation you, with the help of your cover artists, beta readers, editors, and publisher, created never dims and never gets old.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Another brick in the wall

Some days I’m the builder of great things…the one laying the firm foundation for my house, my brand, and my world. Other days, I’m the great destroyer…the Stay Puft marshmallow man of my own demise, caught in the sticky remnants of what is left after the streams crossed.
WHO CROSSED THE FREAKING STREAMS PEOPLE???!

Penned Con was Phenomenal! I am so proud to have had a teeeensy role in helping raise over 10K for Action for Autism…it just feels good! If you’ve never been…put it on your calendar now for September 29 & 30, 2017 in St. Louis. You will thank me – I promise.

Getting there was no small miracle, and it seems that in¬†the aftermath, the hurdles are not done with me.¬† A cracked gas tank sidelined my long-term trusty steed and I had a loaner to make the trek to St. Louis…all good. Not my cup of tea for a vehicle, but alive and arrived was a beautiful thing. Today, now that the gas tank, which happens to be the support structure for the entire under carriage, has been replaced and the keys returned…why should I be surprised that it doesn’t start. The battery did its last turn over so they could pull it out of the garage and park it. Dirty bugger!!! So, tomorrow we add battery to the growing list of new goodies that my buggy will be sporting. After tires, gas tank, and some other suspension do-hickies they couldn’t get off the original. Yay me.

Just in time to pack her up again and head east…for Glass City Author Event. WHOOOP! I’m so excited¬† for this event too. Where Penned was a benefit for Action for Autism, Glass City is a benefit for Second Chance Toledo, an organization that helps the survivors of human trafficking and exploitation. I’m beside myself that as a writer I can somehow help do things that are so much bigger than me. It is humbling and such a tremendous honor.

Glass City is my last event of 2016 and then I have to put the pedal to the metal to finish a boat load of projects…seems deadlines are real and people are expecting me to come through. Guess what? I will!

Until next time – read something amazing…and tell your friends.

One Week

Seven days. BREATHE.

Seven days until the day before Penned Con, the day to set up and be ready when the doors open at 9:00 am on the 23rd. BREATHE.

I planned ahead. ¬†I didn’t procrastinate until the last minute like I usually do. Never the less, I am scrambling. My ¬†books have not arrived. ¬†They were supposed to arrive ¬†this Monday, the 12th. One box arrived, the other did not. ¬†I have zero books of my newest release for Penned. ZERO!¬†Breathe!

I called, ¬†I called more people, where are my books? Good news, ¬†they are going to correct their mistake at no additional cost. They will send them priority. I’m still panicking. ¬†I spent a ton of money much to my husband’s chagrin on these really super cute Action for Autism swag pieces. What good are they if I don’t have ¬†books? This is an author event, not a cool swag event.

Don’t get me wrong, ¬†there will be some cool swag. ¬†I am always ¬†looking for cool swag pieces ¬†that might fit with some of my other book ideas. Yes, I’ll freely admit that if I see an idea I like I’m stealing it. I will make it my own of course, unique in some way.

I have rack cards – check. ¬†I have business cards for my editing – check. ¬†Wine charms – check. Bookmarks – check. ¬†Books – . . . books? No books. ¬†YET. ¬†I am a firm believer in positive thinking but for the love of humanity I am freaking out right now. ¬†Inhale’, exhale’, inhale’, exhale’ . . . ¬†screw this I need some wine. ¬†A LOT of wine.

Next week ¬†at this time, I’ll be on the rooftop with some great authors. ¬†I hope that I will have ¬†books to sell. That is kind of the point, right? Otherwise, I may end up being the comic relief. Pa dum pum! I’ll be ¬†rehearsing my stand-up routine just in case.

Are you coming to Penned Con? The latest numbers are that 900+ people will be there not counting authors. I’ll be the one in the first room cracking jokes and laughing like a loon. Hope to see you there!

Laboring on Labor Day

If you follow my personal website, you know that I have proposed taking a small part of the holiday today to do work, specifically, to gather tax documents and begin the process of taming the paper beast before it becomes January 1st and a mad scramble. I intend to do just that. In fact, between editing and tax papers, working on some plot things and doing some small batch canning, I will be working all day.

Happy Labor Day.

For me, there is seldom unspent time to idle, and that’s how I prefer it. I’m not sure I’d know what to do with the excess anyway. I’m twitchy to sit still. It takes a monumental program or movie to hold my attention to conclusion, and mostly, I just don’t bother. My brain is unappeased. So, what’s¬†a girl to do? Work. (or read, and I plan to do that today too. I picked up some great choices in Savannah at Authors After Dark.)

I have multiple projects running now though, which is the norm. I’m doing final edits for another author, which have become full edits (ie: 3 – 4 passes), I have my competition piece that I’m working on plotting and initial drafting, I signed on to do an anthology with some AMAZING authors that needs to be written as soon as I can finish putting the bible together for it and put up the sticky wall, and…oh yeah, over the weekend, I connected with Wickedly Innocent Promotions to get my street team up and off the ground. (I’ll post the link at the bottom here for anyone interested in coming along for the adventure.)

2016 has been a roller coaster of unforeseeable turns, and it’s not over yet. I still have 3 more signings to go; Read Between the Vines at Snus Hill Winery –¬†a benefit for the Woodward Library Foundation, Penned Con in St. Louis which is a charity Con for Action for Autism, and Glass City Author Event in Toledo…which is shaping up to be epic on a whole new scale. Kimberly Beale has done an amazing job and I’m thrilled to be a part of the madness.

It’s no wonder I can’t find the top of the desk in my office these days. ūüôā And, I wouldn’t have it any other way. If I’ll be seeing you at any one of these upcoming events, shout out, stop by and say hello – I’ll be the one running 220 with my hair on fire. Oh, and before all that happens, I almost forgot, I’ll be part of the Book Nymph’s end of summer party, I’ll be author speed dating with blogger Tierny James for Penned, I’m part of the author takeovers for Glass City, I have a character interview going up for the Matanzas Moon Bookiversary, and I have a short story anthology coming out in the next week or so…I’ll sleep when it’s over, right?

ANNNNDDDD, don’t forget – there are still a few days to vote in the SIBA awards thing where Viva Zapata & the Magic 8-Ball is nominated along with a few of my fellow authors here…the fun never ends.

Soooo….now interested in the adventure and want to check out being on my street team?¬† Start HERE.
