The Curtain Closes

This past weekend, I attended the Glass City Author Event. It was my last signing of the season. Little did I know that after this year, the final curtain would come down on the Glass City Author Event. *sigh* I cannot say enough about how wonderful it has been to work with Kimberly Beale, Marissa Dobson, and Shauna Fox Parrot. These ladies worked their hinies off and made this an event for readers and authors alike. They and the event will be missed.

I had a great time. I met some new readers, connected with some new to me authors, and got to hang out with some great friends that I don’t see anywhere else but at signings. It will be a while before I see any of them in person again. That thought alone makes me wistful, but it is the nature of the beast when the friends you make live neither in the same city as you, or, in some cases, the same state. And I got to see some readers/friends who are bright streams of light, who make me smile every time I see them, and who’s enthusiasm for my books remind me what these events are about and why it’s important to put yourself out there to connect with reader you probably would never otherwise meet.

Right now, I have three events scheduled for next year. I’ll let you know about them as they get closer. Right now…I have a fairytale to right.

Until next week…Happy Reading!

Glass City Author Event Bound

Holy Moly, it’s cold. Only days ago, it was flip flop and shorts weather. Now I’m fighting the urge to turn the heat on. My theory is…mind you, I haven’t had any coffee yet, so this may or may not make sense…but my theory is, once you give in and turn the heat on, any outside temperature lower than say, 60 degrees, is going to seem really cold, and then by the time winter hits you’re in full-on eskimo mode. Where am I going with this…no clue. Remember, there was a lack of caffeine coursing its way through my blood system, making its way to the brain, when I started this post. lol

Anywaaaaay…..

Tonight, I pack for my last signing event of the year. Glass City Author Event in Toledo, Ohio. I love this event. I love that proceeds go to a charity. The charity, this year, is VETSPORTS. As a Marine Corps Brat, I love that this signing is giving back to those who have fought for and ensured our freedom to do things like write books. The following info is from the Glass City Author Event website.

VETSPORTS IS A NATIONWIDE NON-PROFIT HELPING VETERANS ACHIEVE BETTER PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH THROUGH SPORTS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

Mental wellness
Over 22 Veterans commit suicide everyday. Our programs and chapters create continuous, positive outlets to help combat these alarming statistics.

Physical fitness
Through sport and physical activity, veterans are not only bettering themselves physically, but emotionally, and mentally.
Teamwork
It is imperative to the success of VETSports that we promote and fulfill a team atmosphere, where we can all count on each other.

I hope I get to see you there!

Until next week…Stay Warm and Happy Reading!

Another brick in the wall

Some days I’m the builder of great things…the one laying the firm foundation for my house, my brand, and my world. Other days, I’m the great destroyer…the Stay Puft marshmallow man of my own demise, caught in the sticky remnants of what is left after the streams crossed.
WHO CROSSED THE FREAKING STREAMS PEOPLE???!

Penned Con was Phenomenal! I am so proud to have had a teeeensy role in helping raise over 10K for Action for Autism…it just feels good! If you’ve never been…put it on your calendar now for September 29 & 30, 2017 in St. Louis. You will thank me – I promise.

Getting there was no small miracle, and it seems that in the aftermath, the hurdles are not done with me.  A cracked gas tank sidelined my long-term trusty steed and I had a loaner to make the trek to St. Louis…all good. Not my cup of tea for a vehicle, but alive and arrived was a beautiful thing. Today, now that the gas tank, which happens to be the support structure for the entire under carriage, has been replaced and the keys returned…why should I be surprised that it doesn’t start. The battery did its last turn over so they could pull it out of the garage and park it. Dirty bugger!!! So, tomorrow we add battery to the growing list of new goodies that my buggy will be sporting. After tires, gas tank, and some other suspension do-hickies they couldn’t get off the original. Yay me.

Just in time to pack her up again and head east…for Glass City Author Event. WHOOOP! I’m so excited  for this event too. Where Penned was a benefit for Action for Autism, Glass City is a benefit for Second Chance Toledo, an organization that helps the survivors of human trafficking and exploitation. I’m beside myself that as a writer I can somehow help do things that are so much bigger than me. It is humbling and such a tremendous honor.

Glass City is my last event of 2016 and then I have to put the pedal to the metal to finish a boat load of projects…seems deadlines are real and people are expecting me to come through. Guess what? I will!

Until next time – read something amazing…and tell your friends.

Laboring on Labor Day

If you follow my personal website, you know that I have proposed taking a small part of the holiday today to do work, specifically, to gather tax documents and begin the process of taming the paper beast before it becomes January 1st and a mad scramble. I intend to do just that. In fact, between editing and tax papers, working on some plot things and doing some small batch canning, I will be working all day.

Happy Labor Day.

For me, there is seldom unspent time to idle, and that’s how I prefer it. I’m not sure I’d know what to do with the excess anyway. I’m twitchy to sit still. It takes a monumental program or movie to hold my attention to conclusion, and mostly, I just don’t bother. My brain is unappeased. So, what’s a girl to do? Work. (or read, and I plan to do that today too. I picked up some great choices in Savannah at Authors After Dark.)

I have multiple projects running now though, which is the norm. I’m doing final edits for another author, which have become full edits (ie: 3 – 4 passes), I have my competition piece that I’m working on plotting and initial drafting, I signed on to do an anthology with some AMAZING authors that needs to be written as soon as I can finish putting the bible together for it and put up the sticky wall, and…oh yeah, over the weekend, I connected with Wickedly Innocent Promotions to get my street team up and off the ground. (I’ll post the link at the bottom here for anyone interested in coming along for the adventure.)

2016 has been a roller coaster of unforeseeable turns, and it’s not over yet. I still have 3 more signings to go; Read Between the Vines at Snus Hill Winery – a benefit for the Woodward Library Foundation, Penned Con in St. Louis which is a charity Con for Action for Autism, and Glass City Author Event in Toledo…which is shaping up to be epic on a whole new scale. Kimberly Beale has done an amazing job and I’m thrilled to be a part of the madness.

It’s no wonder I can’t find the top of the desk in my office these days. 🙂 And, I wouldn’t have it any other way. If I’ll be seeing you at any one of these upcoming events, shout out, stop by and say hello – I’ll be the one running 220 with my hair on fire. Oh, and before all that happens, I almost forgot, I’ll be part of the Book Nymph’s end of summer party, I’ll be author speed dating with blogger Tierny James for Penned, I’m part of the author takeovers for Glass City, I have a character interview going up for the Matanzas Moon Bookiversary, and I have a short story anthology coming out in the next week or so…I’ll sleep when it’s over, right?

ANNNNDDDD, don’t forget – there are still a few days to vote in the SIBA awards thing where Viva Zapata & the Magic 8-Ball is nominated along with a few of my fellow authors here…the fun never ends.
