Monthly Archives: August 2018

So it begins …

This has been a productive authory week, and I have to admit it feels good. To Kill A Book1Demon2SmallDemon is up for pre-order, releasing on August 28. You can grab your Kindle Edition here for only 99 pennies. I hope you enjoy reading the adventures of Sully and Larke as much as I did in telling their tales.

One of my closest friends is getting close to releasing his debut novel. I’ve been going over it with a fine-toothed comb, making sure it’s as error free as it can get. I’m not sure which one of us is more excited about his baby. I’ve read it so many times, I feel like I know it almost as well as one of my own.

Of course, there always seems to be that one piece of bad that tends to give me grief. It seems that Facebook is cracking down on professionals from promoting their wares on their profile pages. Yes, I have an author page on Facebook, but the majority of my friends and readers are on my profile page, not my author page. Now, according to the Facebook police, we can’t post anything about our business on our profile page without risking being shut down, which means anything about my books. Which is fine and dandy, I’ll post on my author page. Unfortunately, not many will see those posts. Therein lies the problem. How do you get your friends to LIKE your business page, other than asking? I guess I’ll see in the coming days as I ask all of you to come over to the other page and LIKE me. I hope you’ll join me there. I would hate for you to miss out on the fun.  https://www.facebook.com/MadisonGrangerAuthor/

Before this weekend is over, I still have to put together a newsletter and finalize plans for Booking in BR 2018Booking in Baton Rouge. I’ve ordered my books, reserved my room, and touched base with the event coordinator. Need to go over my swag and see what I’ve got, and what I’m going to need. It’s been three years since I’ve been to a book signing of this caliber. I’m equally nervous and excited. If you’re going to be in the Baton Rouge area October 20, you can get tickets for the event here. I hope to see you there.

Until next week,

~Madison

School. Has. Started!

It’s that time of year where the dulcet tones of children and teens everywhere (at least in this part of the country) have turned into whining, and smiling, laughing faces turn into pouting ones. School is back in session!

To be fair, not all the whining is that of the kids. I admit I’ve been doing my fair share of whining about having to wake up earlier than I had to do as recently as last week. I’ve already had a morning of sleeping through alarms. It’s been an adjustment…coffee helps.

Anyway…here is the  update as to where I am in my writing.

Breathe Me to Life is off to the formatter. The back and spine for the cover is off to the cover magician.

Veiled Hearts Revealed is almost done being written. I have missed the deadline between my publisher and I. I will be talking with them about a release date soon-ish. The cover is done! I can’t wait to share it with all of you. I’ll do that when I have a definite release date. It’s so pretty.

In a little over 30 days, I will be heading to St. Louis for Penned Con! More on that later!

Until next week…Happy Reading!

New year…new mud puddle

FABULOUSNESS. Total fabulousness.

You may or may not be aware of my Rhino philosophy, business model, or life plan…but I’m a Rhino. Sometimes, Rhinos need to plop into a mud puddle and just do the downtime.  Late last week, I and my mini-unihorns headed south for some R&R and dang it if wasn’t perfection. Sweet perfection with a double scotch on top.

Ever notice that you think you know how worn you are…but once you’re back, it’s like…I had no idea how out of psycho I really was? Or realizing how crappy you feel, but only after you feel better? I’m not going to front like I’m magically batting 1000 again, cuz Goddess knows I could use more of the mud puddle…but I’m better. And, I’m coming into clearer focus on what I need to do to hit the marks.

With so many looming deadlines, I couldn’t see how to do anything but keep pushing forward. Except, pushing forward was just bungling the gears and making me edgy. Pause the gas pedal and pull back. Breaks are good.

I literally slept in a lake with my head through an inner tube to keep it above water. Best nap I’ve had in ages. Not to mention time with the extended family was enlightening and pleasant. No pressure, no phones…just food and chill. All shop talk was dropped at the main road and left for the return trip.
Gods, I can’t wait to go again.

Tomorrow starts 3 weeks in a row of releases, so get your one-click fingers ready.

Twelve (Flip-Flopped Fairy Tales) hits the 14th
Rogue (Una-Mor Trilogy book 1) hits the 21st
Black Guard (Una-Mor Trilogy book 2) hits the 28th.

I’ll have an update on the other dates next week…There are at least 3 in September, but there’s a chance there will be more.
🙂 Just depends on how therapeutic that mud really was.

Now that I’m back …

Things are looking up lately and it’s a nice change of pace. I finally got Demon off to the publisher. If things work out, I’ll still have that August release. It may be toward the end of the month, but I’ll be keeping my personal deadline of August. Still need to work on promos to get the word out.

I sent Heart of Stone off to a couple of my beta readers. The feedback was sorely needed. I knew the story needed “more,” I just wasn’t sure what points needed it. Now, I have a better idea of what and where to fix what’s lacking.

In between my own works, I need to buckle down to help out a friend. He’s *this close* to releasing his first novel, and I promised him a thorough going over before it makes it way to the public. While doing that, I need to pull some quotes so I can work on his teaser promos, too.

No rest for the weary, here. As soon as I get all of this done, it’s back to work on Blindsided. There’s a lot more to go before it’s finished, and that deadline will be here before I know it.

Until next week,

Madison

New Year – Need some new brain cells

Yep. It’s been a while since I posted. How can I tell? Because I couldn’t remember my password for the life of me. Woops.

I still have more covers to share with you, but thanks to some serious schedule shifting for releases…I’m under not one, not two…but FOUR deadlines. I’m living in the chair and feeling like I can’t make headway fast enough. OOF.

July took a renegade course as it was audit month at the daily deal and I lost an assessor mid-way. The buck stops here, so I ended up making a couple extra trips downstate to compensate for the shortage. Add 2 AMAZING signing events and I’m full up, but still running on E.

But, as we have learned over the past years…this too shall pass and my crazy ass will be wherever with bells on and books to share. It’s just how I go.

I’m restocking titles for Show Me Your Books Kansas City, Penned Con and maybe for Booking in Baton Rouge too…that one might be an additional order later. I am perilously low on several titles, and that just won’t do. So, the man in Brown will be visiting me for the foreseeable weeks as things come in and hopefully, I get my deal together before I hit the next hotel.

Where will I see you?

I’ll be in to share more covers and news soon. For now, read something great and tell your friends!

Getting there … slowly

To say I’ve been busy is a profound understatement. Settling into a new place is usually something I enjoy. This time around, not so much. While I love all the windows, it leaves little wall space for my many prints. Keepsakes that were kept in the attic have found themselves on the floor in my office. I don’t want to put them in storage because it isn’t climate controlled, but I have no other choice. There’s just not enough room for everything. I’ll get through it. It will just take time.

In between boxes, I did manage to finish up To Kill A Demon. I’m 90% finished with the formatting. A few more tweaks and I should be able to send it to my publisher before the weekend is over. As usual, formatting never goes smoothly for me. I always seem to run into a snag or two along the way. Thankfully, my niece came to my rescue and is helping me. Though why for the life of me you can upload a perfect copy to Createspace and still find issues. I just don’t get it! Maybe one day I’ll figure it all out, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be this day.

For now, it’s back to finishing up the formatting and unpacking more boxes. There’s light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s still a pinpoint. I’ll keep working at it. At least, the background of rain of the roof is soothing. Today will be a better day.

Until next week,

~Madison

WOTR Re-Cap and Moving Forward

It’s been almost two weeks since Writers on the River. I don’t have enough words to let you know how wonderful this event is. If you have the opportunity to go to it next year, I highly recommend you attend. The proceeds of this event go to the charity, Thistle Farms.

I had such a wonderful time there, it was hard to say goodbye to my fellow authors and to the readers. The energy at this event is such that, as a writer, I felt like my creativity received a much need boost of adrenaline, and my spirit felt renewed.

That being said, I did have to drop out of one of the projects that I had hoped to participate in. Unexpected life challenges necessitated my withdrawal, and the organizers were more than understanding…for that I am eternally grateful.

On August 12th, I get the rights to Breathe Me to Life back! I have spoken to my cover artist and not only is she working on the back cover for it, she has started working on the cover for the third and final book in the Veil Series. The title of which, in case you were wondering what I went with, is Veiled Hearts Revealed~The Veil Book 3. I hope to be able to share a sneak peek with you soon-ish.

Here are a few pics from WOTR…
