As an author you talk shop with other authors. When I go to events I go for the connection and information from other authors. The best way to learn how to make it in the publishing world is to listen to the people that are further along in figuring it out than you are.
Don’t get me wrong I still go a little fan girl over the authors that I have read and loved their work. The important thing to remember is to keep it to a minimum and actually listen to what they are saying.
Most authors that have been making a living out of writing will share their methods with no problem. They remember being where I am now and they are happy to give me some assistance. I have met very few authors that put themselves above everyone else. That is the exception not the norm.
I am still struggling with trying to keep everything straight and not get overwhelmed. Trying to work a day job, be a mom, be a wife, volunteer to help my daughter and be an author is a lot and is stressful. There are times when I think I can’t do this. Then I look back and realize that every time I have said that in the past I persevered and actually did do it.
My point is if you really want something you have to work for it. Nothing is handed to you. Those successful authors that you see, they had to work very hard to get there. If you keep working and reaching for it then you will eventually get there. It’s not a race it’s a journey.
Until next week, keep chasing your dreams you are getting closer.
